BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)

Your body is always burning calories even when you’re not doing anything.

This is called your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

Your BMR is the baseline for how many calories your body burns to perform the minimal day to day processes to help keep you alive such as breathing, pumping blood through your veins, getting the nutrients to your organs, etc.

It’s difficult to get an exact BMR but without tests but one can get an estimate of your BMR so that we can get started with losing weight.

TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure)

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is your BMR plus how active you are.

So your TDEE = BMR + Daily Activity gives you how many calories you burn on a daily basis.

BMI (Body Mass Index)

BMI (Body Mass Index) is just a ratio between your height and weight.

Using BMR, TDEE, and BMI to Lose Weight

So how do you calculate your BMR, TDEE, and BMI?

Well we have a handy dandy TDEE calculator which given a few data points like your current age, height, weight, activiy level, and weight/diet goals we’ll do the work to calculate it for you. It also calculates your BMI (Body Mass Index) to suggest healthy weights.

Just go here and put in your information:

https://lifetoolstribe.com/tdee-bmi

Once you hit the Calculate button you’ll see a Max Calories which tells you given the input how many calories to eat on a daily basis and stay under to achieve your weight goals.

It also shows you the BMR and TDEE we discussed above and given your weight goals input (perhaps start with 20% caloric reduction initially for about 500 - 1000 calories less).

The results also shows how much time it’d take to lose a pound of weight and days/months until you reach that goal.

You can also change around parameters like the calorie deficit level and activity level to see how the results parameters for daily calorie intake and time to reach your goal works out.

Use a mobile app to help keep track of your calories!

Have fun and congratulates on arming yourself with numbers to keep you on track to losing your weight!
