Wiping and completely erasing your hard drive

To wipe your hard drive using Windows do the following:

  1. Create a Windows bootable USB drive.
  2. Plug your USB drive into the machine you want to erase the hard drive.
  3. Change your BIOS settings to boot into the USB.
  4. Select “repair computer” link.
  5. Select “command prompt” option.
  6. In the command prompt type the following for each drive you want to format: format c: /fs:NTFS /p:2
  7. Enter the volume label. (to see the volume label type vol c:)
